Hula-bula people

What a trip! Fiji just keep getting better every time I go back. I was a bit worried since I had been there before, but this time we saw a completely different side of the small pacific country with the many Islands. Millie and I decided to stay the whole time at one resort on the mainland of Fiji, and then just travel around and do whatever we wanted.

We stayed at Mango Bay Resort, Coral Coast on Viti Levu Island.

The restaurant.

The dorm.

The dorm from the outside.

Since our holiday started out with rain we spent one of our first day in th capitol city; Suva.

Our first stop was at the Parliament House, Court House, The Ambassies and the Fijian White House. The city itself was very different from the Fiji I've seen before.

Back home again we relaxed in the restaurant with some fruit punch and yenga.

Me.

Yenga.

The next day it was still raining, so we decided to se more of the Fijian Culture, and went to the local village; Namatakula. I musy admit, their simple lifestyle is tempting. Wouldn't mind living like that for a bit. The houses had hardly any furnitures, they cooked outside and every one knows everyone.

To welcome us to the village we were invited to participate in a kava ceremony. Kava is their local natural 'alcohol'. It is made of the roots of kava (paper) tree, sun dried and smashed into powder. Then it is mixed with clean water. Aftr a few cups your tongue and mouth goes numb. In the end you don't feel like talking, and you just want to sleep. This is how they solve conflicts in Fiji...

I am trying kava.

Photoshoot back at the resort.

Since it was still raining why not learn to make a traditional basket...We were really talented. In the small photo you can see a guy in a pinkish singlet. The night before he was standing next to me in the bar just looking. We tried to talk to him, but came to the conclusion he was stum. When he finally talked he complained about my dry hair and spots. In his british accent he said: That is horrible. How can anyone touch that? What do you use? What do you eat? Hahah, he never stopped either and we were on the floor cramping of laughter. Nice gay guy!

Drinks at the resort. Lise, Maya, me and Millie.

When the sun finally returned we decided to see the islands. Millie, Henz, Nadia and me left at 5.30 am, after a night filled with Kava, Fiji Gold, pina colada, ice cream, singing, dancing, breaking of ping pong tables, bon fire and Fifa Wold Cup.

Ice cream competition. We didn't win!Well, was a good night.

Later the same night.

We did manage to get up the next morning; ten minutes before out pick up came. Lucky it was a beach trip to relax. Our first stop was South Sea Island. They said it would take 5 minutes to walk around it. I am not sure couse I never tried. Nadia and Henz went snorkeling and saw a shark.
Our next stop was Bounty Island. Both islands were like paradise; clear blue water, white beaches, palm trees and sunny. What more do you need?!Pinapple-smashing at the resort.

For more detailed...or a diary reading for what we did read Millie's blog here.
